Developer Meraas has completed the first phase of its Al Seef project on Dubai Creek.
The government-owned company said that the 1.8km-long project contains 500 shopping and dining outlets, including a floating market, floating restaurants, an authentic souq and a marina for private yachts. It also has a stop for Dubai’s water taxis and three hotels with a combined 550 rooms.
Abdulla Al Habbai, group chairman of Meraas and Dubai Holding, said that the project’s creekside location “holds a special place in the history of Dubai”.
“Its peaceful shores have welcomed travellers and tradesman since ancient times, and the development of Al Seef reflects a commitment at Meraas to revitalise an area known for its vibrancy.
“By combining traditional and modern design elements, the destination highlights the role the creek has played, and continues to play, in the evolution of Dubai,” he added.
Al Seef has been built by Dutco Balfour Beatty under a $ 408 million contract awarded in April 2015.
