DUBAI // A cook stabbed his roommate to death for molesting him and his girlfriend, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.
On December 19 last year, the Nepalese accused, 29, and some friends threw a party at their labour accommodation in Ras Al Khor to celebrate a colleague’s promotion.
Police said that during the party the roommate, a waiter, sexually harassed the cook’s girlfriend.
“The defendant told us that he pushed the deceased inside the room to keep him away from his girlfriend and then the waiter molested him,” said an Emirati police lieutenant.
“So he went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed the man repeatedly in the back.”
The officer said that the cook locked the body inside the room and threw away the key before washing his bloodied clothes.
The girlfriend said she was not in the room with the accused and the waiter at the time of the stabbing but she heard the screams.
“We received a report of a body from the accommodation’s security guard, who said he was called in by an Indian roommate to open the deceased’s room after he missed work,” the policeman said.
The Indian roommate testified that he noticed the victim had not gone to work but presumed he had taken leave.
“But when an employee from the company came to ask about why the victim had missed work, I called for the security guard to open the room’s door,” said the Indian, 32.
“When he did, we found the waiter face down in a pool of blood.
In court, the defendant denied a charge of premeditated murder. The next hearing has been scheduled for May 17.
