Man who stabbed two prostitutes in Dubai must see out five-year jail term, Dubai court rules

DUBAI // Prosecutors lost their attempt to have a harsher penalty given to a baker who was jailed for attempted murder after stabbing two prostitutes.

“I was forced to attack them by a number of Bangladeshi men,” said the 22-year-old Afghan, who was sentenced to five years in jail by Dubai Criminal Court.

On the night of March 26, police found two women bleeding heavily outside a building in Naif. They were taken to Rashid Hospital where they were treated for wounds to the face, neck and shoulders.

“We then followed blood on the side of the road, which led us to the defendant,” a Yemeni policeman said.

The suspect was bleeding from a deep cut in his thigh.

One of the women, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi, said he began stabbing her and her Indonesian friend as they entered a flat on the first floor of the building.

“He first stabbed me in the head, then face, neck, shoulder and chest. At that point I just fell and saw as he walked towards my friend,” said the prostitute, who was found to have HIV.

The 35-year-old Indonesian said she was stabbed in the head, face, neck, shoulders and back.

No details of motive were given and Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the man’s sentence. He will be deported after serving his term.
